Multi-Currency IBAN

A multi-currency IBAN is a single international bank account number that can hold and receive multiple currenciesunder one account structure, instead of requiring a separate IBAN for each currency.

It simplifies cross-border payments and reconciliation by allowing businesses to collect, hold, and send funds in different currencies (e.g. GBP, EUR, USD) through one unified account, often supported by fintech providers and specialist payment institutions.

Example:

A UK business receives payments in EUR and USD into the same multi-currency IBAN. The account automatically recognises the incoming currency, credits the correct sub-balance, and lets the business pay suppliers in the same or another currency.

Used in:

Global trade, FX management, and treasury operations where businesses deal with multiple currencies regularly.
